Four people are facing charges after several fights broke out Saturday night at the Chesterfield County Fair and police used pepper spray to break up the melee.
Chesterfield Fire said EMS treated 13 people — 12 for pepper spray exposure and one for an arm injury. One juvenile male was transported by EMS to a hospital for pepper spray exposure. No police officers were injured.
Chesterfield police said officers working the fair at 10300 Courthouse Road were informed of possible fights between juvenile attendees at around 8:30 p.m.
Officers attempted to disperse the crowds in a peaceful manner to prevent any potential fights, police spokesperson Liz Caroon said in a news release Sunday.

At 9 p.m., the fair gates closed as scheduled. Members of a crowd outside the gates became upset and attempted to force their way in, so fair personnel decided to close the fair early for the evening, police said. One juvenile, 15, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a fair employee.
As crowds reached the parking lots, people continued to gather and multiple fights broke out, the release said. Police officers responded and gave orders for the crowds to disperse. Multiple officers deployed pepper spray to break up fights.
Another juvenile, 14, was arrested and charged with assault on law enforcement. Two adults were also arrested outside the fairgrounds.
Klaron Dupree-Faulkner, 18, of Richmond, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property (it was in his vehicle), underage possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice and trespassing.
Eric Edwards Jr., 31, of Henrico, was charged with attempted brandishing within 1,000 feet of a school and carrying a concealed firearm.
The juveniles who were arrested were released to their parents at the scene.
